Let’s Get Crafty and Paint Halloween Decorations!

We’re off and running with some fun designs for you, starting with decorating your home for Halloween. I just attended one of my major trade shows of the year, CHA Summer in Chicago (Craft and Hobby Assn.). Lots of cool stuff there, but one thing that stood out were all the scrapbook paper designs for Halloween! Hope some of these great designs make it to your local scrapbook store…..and mine!

Did you know, that next to Christmas, Halloween is the most “decorated” holiday? Which means, of course, you’ll want to join in the fun and create something special. I painted these colorful Ghost Houses using unfinished wood houses from Don Mechanic Enterprises. You can find these in your local Michaels Store, if not now, then very soon.

As always, I used my favorite paint, DecoArt Americana Acrylics®. There’s just no other paint with the ease of application or with colors that usually cover in just one coat!

When working with imported wood (yes, that means from China), it’s important to prepare your surface for painting by sealing it with a water based sealer such as DecoArt Dura Clear Varnish®, then sanding when dry to smooth the surface. This will allow paint to cover the surface, without any burrs, flaws or incomplete coverage. A little prep time up front leads to a quality finish!

You can use your painted Ghost House anywhere in your home, but it makes an especially nice table centerpiece. Put it on a dinner plate, then sprinkle candy corn around it…yummy! These houses make a fun family project too. The little ghost comes with the house, so these are sure to be a hit with your kids.

As always,

More Craft Painting Fun for Halloween!

Just in case the other Ghost House was just too sweet and not-so-scary, he’s another version of the project. This little guy has a big, scary mouth, but it’s sized just right for little hands to reach in and retrieve a candy treat!

Once again…
