Get an Early Start on Christmas Ornaments

aka: Fun with the Kids!

My good friend, Angel Hartline, creates fabulous digital scrapbook kits, so be sure to visit her site to check out her blog and etsy store. AngelHartLine.com (http://www NULL.angelhartline NULL.com)

Until I get the chance to write instructions and do a couple of tutorials on some projects tucked away in the “to complete” box, I’m going to post some projects from my CHA Supershow Workshop for you. These Woodsie® ornaments are so quick and easy to make, and so much fun, I’m sure you’ll want to let the kids help. I can’t wait for the day when my grandchildren are old enough to make fun projects with me!

This coming week, in addition to working on projects, it’s time to straighten out the design room, which at this point is, unfortunately, my entire house. It’s getting hard to move around with boxes of supplies and crafts tucked literally everywhere! I’d post a picture, but the housekeeping police would surely arrest me and throw away the key.

I guess my consolation is that housework in Texas in August a good thing…it’s just too hot to be outside for long. Painting up these Christmas ornaments reminded me that it will be nice fall weather soon, then before you know it, holiday time will be here.

Please don’t forget about our weekly prize contest! I need some more folks to enter, please, please! Just open the “Contests” tag for more information. And, please be sure to share the crafty goodness and tell all your friends about the contest – I’d appreciate it.

Till next time…happy crafting from Just Crafty Me!

Let’s Get Crafty and Paint Halloween Decorations

We’re off and running with some fun designs for you, starting with decorating your home for Halloween. I just attended one of my major trade shows of the year, CHA Summer in Chicago (Craft and Hobby Assn.). Lots of cool stuff there, but one thing that stood out were all the scrapbook paper designs for Halloween! Hope some of these great designs make it to your local scrapbook store…..and mine!

Did you know, that next to Christmas, Halloween is the most “decorated” holiday? Which means, of course, you’ll want to join in the fun and create something special. I painted these colorful Ghost Houses using unfinished wood houses.

When working with imported wood (yes, that means from China), it’s important to prepare your surface for painting by sealing it with a water based sealer, then sanding when dry to smooth the surface. This will allow paint to cover the surface, without any burrs, flaws or incomplete coverage. A little prep time up front leads to a quality finish!

You can use your painted Ghost House anywhere in your home, but it makes an especially nice table centerpiece. Put it on a dinner plate, then sprinkle candy corn around it…yummy! These houses make a fun family project too. The little ghost comes with the house, so these are sure to be a hit with your kids.

Just a Little Crafty Inspiration

Welcome to Just Crafty Me, my little creative place on the web. I have so many fun ideas for this site – projects, tutorials, patterns, contests and giveaways! Hopefully, you’ll find some great crafting inspiration and karma! Make sure you bookmark this site, or better yet, subscribe to this blog, follow me on Twitter – @justcraftyme (http://twitter NULL.com/justcraftyme) or @borntocraft (http://twitter NULL.com/borntocraft). Soon my Etsy Store will be live, and I’ll add a link for that too.

JustCraftyMe really says it all about me and my crafting “roots”. Read the “about me” for a cute story on my first craft project. I’ve been a crafter all my life, and currently I’m co-owner of Kievlan-McGuffee Design Services, Inc. (http://www NULL.kievlan-mcguffeedesign NULL.com) I work with manufacturers in the Creative Industry to develop new products. You may have seen some of the products I’ve designed in Michaels, AC Moore, Hobby Lobby and Archivers, as well as in your local scrapbook store. Most of the McGill Craft Punches are my designs, and quite a few small wood parts designs have also been designed by me (from Lara’s Crafts: wood tags, Alpha Tags, wood shapes, wood stickers, etc.). You can also see some of my projects at www.michaels.com (http://www NULL.michaels NULL.com/art/online/search?pageNumber=1&channel=0&search=yes&searchWords=Jean+Kievlan&type=0&as_fid=1&x=0&y=0&as_fid=1&as_fid=1&as_fid=1)

One of the other hats I wear is as an educator. Later this month I’ll be at the CHA Show (Craft and Hobby Organization) where I’ll be teaching retailers about exciting new products from Mark Richards Enterprises (http://www NULL.markrichardsusa NULL.com) and at the CHA Consumer Show where I’ll be teaching a workshop W1305 Holiday Ornaments (https://www NULL.expologic NULL.com/clients/cha/2010/summer/sessions NULL.cfm?Speaker=Jean%20Kievlan%20and%20Julie%20McGuffee). If you are going to the show, don’t miss my class on Saturday, July 31st from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. We’ll also have some great goody bags…..need I say more? Here’s a sneak peak at some of the workshop projects…

Don’t miss  our JustCraftyMe Giveaway! Each week, for 16 weeks, we’ll be giving away some great craft or scrapbooking supplies, a kit, or a gift card! Please enter the giveaway each and every week. If you follow me on Twitter, and email me of such, I’ll give you two additional entries! And, if you enter as the result of a referral by a friend, you’ll each be entered for one additional chance in the giveaway. How’s that for Crafty Goodness?

I’m looking forward to sharing with you. Until we post our new projects, here is a fun paper punch project (http://www NULL.mcgillinc NULL.com/projects/candy-bags NULL.aspx) using my McGill Punches. We’ll be giving away a McGill punch for one of our first Giveways, so stay tuned!
